Secretary of State Work Permits & Drivers License Reinstatements

Illinois’ DUI and driver’s license reinstatement laws are tough. In fact, Illinois has some of the toughest laws in the country. The laws are very strict, very detailed, and very confusing. Moreover, the laws are constantly changing, and sometimes it seems that the system is designed so that you will fail.

We can help.

If you’ve lost your license, or you think you are going to lose your license soon, you may have heard horror stories about how long it is going to take for you to get your license back. In fact, you’ve probably heard that it may be many years before you get your license back. Some of those stories are probably true. Many people have spent decades without a license. Then, they hired the attorneys at Gates Wise Schlosser & Goebel and got their licenses back.

We have earned a reputation as one of the leading firms in this area of practice. We have represented hundreds of clients at administrative hearings before the Secretary of State. We have argued cases before the Illinois Appellate Court. Our advice is regularly sought by other lawyers and by drug and alcohol counselors throughout Illinois. Most important, we win nearly all of our cases.

Proven success.

At nearly all of our hearings, our clients are awarded either a driving permit or full reinstatement following their hearing. You may have heard that you should go to your first hearing without a lawyer “to get your first denial out of the way.” This is a MYTH. The truth is your first hearing is the most important hearing, and contrary to myth, it provides the best opportunity to get a driver’s license or permit.

You may have also heard horror stories about people trying many, many times to get their license back, only to get denied time after time after time. It seems that each time they go back, the Secretary of State finds another, different reason to deny them. It does not have to be this way. But if you go in for a hearing unprepared (or prepared improperly by an attorney who doesn’t know the law or doesn’t take the time to teach it to you) not only will you lose the hearing, but the next hearing will be even harder. You will not only have to deal with all of the same traps, pitfalls and trick questions as before, but you will also have to deal with the mistakes you made at your first hearing.

You need an experienced attorney who will take the time to prepare your case properly. We will be there to help you every step of the way. We promise that you will NOT be unprepared.

You will work with a Lawyer, not an assistant.

Our attorneys will meet with you face to face at the beginning of the process to explain all of the steps along the way so you know exactly what to expect throughout the process. If your DUI case is still pending, we will work with your lawyer to try to minimize the amount of time that you will have to spend without a license. We will work with your counselor/evaluator to make sure that there are no mistakes in your paperwork. We will take your phone calls and respond to your emails, to ensure that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing. We will make sure that you have all of the necessary exhibits, and then we will help you prepare all of the “extra” exhibits that help make your case stand out from the others. Finally, at the end of your case, we will meet with you in our office for as long as it takes to prepare you for the questions that the Secretary of State Hearing Officer is going to ask you at your hearing. After that, we will take you to the hearing and you will have the confidence of knowing that you are 100% prepared to win.

Many people are afraid that their past record is so bad that they will never get the chance to drive again. It is true that most of our clients have 1 to 3 DUI arrests on their record, but many of our clients have had 4 or more DUI arrests. We have also won cases where our clients have had more than a dozen DUI arrests. Even if you have had numerous DUI arrests, we can help.

No case is too hard.

Did you lose your license, get it back, and then get another DUI and lose it again?

We can help.

Did you lose your license for DUI and you have also been to prison for drug-related offenses?

We can help.

Did you lose your license for Aggravated DUI or Reckless Homicide?

We can help.

No matter how bad your past might be, the trick to winning your case is this: Your past may be terrible, but your future is bright!
